I lay there…every night…watching the spastic shapes from the glitter night light writhe across the ceiling trying so hard to quickly fall asleep for a few blasted hours or minutes before the alarm goes off. I’ve a warm dog tummy under my hand, a snoring man next to me…why am I not blissfully asleep? OK…picture a canvas…a nice big blank primed stretched canvas, and that’s it. With a matte black wall behind it, no distractions. No paints near, no marking accoutrements…just a lovely naked white expanse. Get rid of all those thoughts cluttering the space…UGH…it’s not working…my canvas all of a sudden has stuff on it…I’ll never sleep…look in the corner…those silly hopes and dreams of childhood…well those are in pencil I can erase them…over there all the crap that tatters all lives: disappointment, betrayal, torture, disapproval, self hatred…erasable ink…some of that can go…OY…now cropping up in quick dry acrylic, black of course: tomorrow’s schedule, work, make money, spend money, nothing to show for money, contemplate what could be, what should be, what never will be…great here come the plashes of Technicolor with textured medium mixed in…accomplishments I want to accomplish tomorrow so I feel whole, they are a blob of no shape so if I don’t accomplish them I won’t feel too bad…right…I feel bad already…things I want to just finish so I can start something new without leaving anything unfinished…that unfortunately has shape as I know what’s there…there it is…looking at me with laser eyes…melting through my skull…’Just finish me…I’m not that difficult’…sigh…still not asleep…my canvas is dripping globs of my life on the floor…do I sweep it up or just put another canvas there to catch the run off to be contemplated at a later date? F*ck it…I’ll pick up a hand full of glitter from that damn nightlight and throw a fist full at the wet paint…HA how’s that for tactile giggle ee tude. Warm dog rolls over seemingly disturbed by the goings on in my head…perhaps I was thinking too loud?!? Shhhh…don’t wake any one up! Don’t look at the clock…Don’t look at the clock…DON’T LOOK AT THE CLOCK! ………..5:14am…thus the plaintive screaming of the alarm sounds the new day…quick to shut it off…no sense everyone waking up…hmmm…why not? Paste on that smile…time to go again…

Olivia Safe Monkey butt…Oliver picked out the socks at JoAnn fabrics and decided Olivia needed a monkey at my house…totally baby proof…embroidered lips, nose and ‘Olivia’…have the owl placed just right that it’s eyes are the monkeys eyes…the ears turned out funny so I guess this is a teddy monk…with super long knuckles dragging on the floor arms…now just need to wait for Liv to get big enough to play with it. once upon a teddy monk

Once upon a time there were a pair of super warm socks that felt like fuzzy washcloths…but they didn’t want to be socks…hidden in shoes…closed in drawers…lost in the washer…they wanted to BE somebody…so they were cut up…it didn’t even hurt…to become a sock monkey…sewing commenced…a fun flower or two were added…but when the mirror was brought out…the socks didn’t see a monkey…they saw a Teddy Bear…well kinda a teddy bear…thus the Teddy Monk was born!

Made of 2 fabulously striped socks, washer backed plastic eyes…can you feel the intelligence there…2 doily flowers…and hand embroidered lips and eye brows when you can see them…10 inches tall sitting…1-2-12

Valentina Zarlakian…chenille toe sock monster of LOOOOVE…she equals 2 toe socks and 1 gripper bottomed sock…made her using (to a point) the book make your own stupid sock monster…she’s warm fuzzy and huggable…not really baby safe even though she does have ‘safe’ eyes…a gem on her tongue…go figure I can’t make a tongue without piercing it…a felt button heart and a wee heart button nose…12-31-11

I’m thinking Maurice is a bit Canadian…’eh…made using 2 pairs of lovely ladies socks from Target and a glove palm for his tongue…hey…I forgot to pierce it…oh well…his antlers are fabulous ladies stretch gloves…he has eight yes 8 fabulous legs that really don’t hold up his massively intelligent head…he sits quite nicely…he even has the little chin dangler! ‘Safe’ eyes, button nostrils and aqua ribbon. The lipless wonders…sold 3 sock monkeys on New Years day on Etsy (YEAH!!!) so now need to replenish my stock…the orange bear monkey is made of fuzzy chenille socks, striped pink money made of over the calf ladies socks and the Hello Sock kitty made of toddler Sanrio socks…hmmm…only one monkey…good thing I have 2 more ready to stuff…just need to give these one’s lips and the kitty a nose and they’re ready to go! 1-2-12
