paper pieced heart WIP -n- Shamus

Good Works heart WIP

for my All Who Dwell in my Heart Quilt. Made this block out of cottons and flannel I’ve used to make quilts, lovies, angel pockets http://danettesangels.tripod.com/ and teeny diapers http://teenytears.blogspot.com/.  I plan on making a super teeny diaper to sew onto the orange spackled fabric.  The monkey in the heart is for all the sock monkeys and sock beasties that now reside across the planet http://www.operationsockmonkey.com/ and that wee sheep with the pacifier is for all the babies I’ve helped keep warm.…the pattern is free and can be found at: http://www.paperpanache.com/free/guestpats/aheart.htm I blew it up a bit on the copier…paper pieced by hand…that’s how I roll…I’ll be adding ribbons by machine and hand embroider ‘good works’ on the frame of the heart.  Paper piecing Completed July 15th 2013…block is about 8.2 inches square. One more block to go and I’ll have all 20 blocks completed for this quilt!

Home is Where the Heart is Quilt totally complete and ready to be shipped to Teresa so it can be passed on to a heart baby (or child) at Children’s Heart Clinic in Minneapolis.

Massive thanks to Sharon of Rose of Sharon http://1roseofsharon.blogspot.com/  for doing a fabulous job quilting it…this was my first attempt to actually bind an quilt and it worked quite nicely!

Eeee Happy Dance! It’s so nice when something actually gets totally done and can go to its forever home!

Just in time for Valentine’s Day too! This quilt has paper pieced blocks and machine embroidery, some of the squares were from a charm swap I was a part of in 2010.  This 56 inch square beast was started in 2011…only 2 years to completion. January 27th 2013

Shamus has given up trying to leave the living room when I have quilts spread on the floor for pinning…what a good boy…rarely walks on the fabric! January 26th 2013

Star Shining right in my eye quilt…bound…yeah I pick out the order I do things and they’re usually not the norm…color me shocked (that’s Shades of puce and gingham)

pinned within an inch of it’s fiber filled life so it won’t shift too much from the copious waiting rooms it will be dragged through…don’t know…think this will keep me occupied?!?  I may need to bring some hankies to make into bonnets too…perhaps a really fat book…OY…this quilt does have a awful lot of white…stains just waiting to happen! Socky girls

as yet unnamed well I named them but they haven’t gotten their forever girls yet to really name them.  These are already boxed with the last 2 finished sock monkeys and the one lone Oonie ready to be shipped out to Operation Sock Monkey in Canada.  I made 2 more bags so I have 2 more piles of baby socks to make additional sets of wee people to ship out eventually.  These are SO tiny each is about 2.5 inches tall if that.  One baby sock makes one teeny person.  About an hour of furious uninterrupted hand sewing; far too tiny to sew on the machine.  December 29th 2012

Boy 28 week gestation (approximately) sized

Teeny Tears http://teenytears.blogspot.com/ diapers…some of this lovely flannel is from fat quarters from Heavenly Patchwork in Waconia, some from Xmas gift from a few years ago from my friend Kris…it all was just waiting for the perfect project…these teeny diapers were just that project.  Pretty sure these will go to God’s Tiny Angels in West Virginia  http://www.godstinyangels.com/  unless of course I hear from a hospital here in Minnesota first…at the rate I’m sewing I think I’ll have enough for whom ever needs them. Hoping to package these with Oliver’s help soon…he’s an expert taper! December 30th 2012

Girl 18 & 28 gestation (approximately) sized

Teeny Tears http://teenytears.blogspot.com/ diapers…some of this lovely flannel is from fat quarters from Heavenly Patchwork in Waconia, some mom found at a garage sale…it all was just waiting for the perfect project…these teeny diapers were just that project.  Pretty sure these will go to God’s Tiny Angels in West Virginia http://www.godstinyangels.com/  unless of course I hear from a hospital here in Minnesota first. Teeny single diapers,

there is a place for these too! The super teenies (lower right corner) I may be putting pin backs on…we shall see! Every so often with the furious chopping of the flannel I’ll end up with one lone diaper…or when turning them right side out I accidentally poke a hole in one to the point that it looks too hideous leaving the match alone…so these all get sewn and put in their own bag for the day that the bag is full then I’ll send it to Tayler’s Treasure in South Dakota https://www.facebook.com/TaylersTreasures  December 31st 2012

Teeny fabulous diapers in process

the tie dye (don’t you just LOVE this flannel) is backed with royal purple, these are 28 gestation (approximately) sized Teeny Tears http://teenytears.blogspot.com/ diapers I’m thinking probably boy, fabric from JoAnn…(don’t you just LOVE JoAnn Fabrics?!?) thus I gush!  The smaller ones are the ultra super teeny diapers I’ll be putting pin backs on and placing one into matching sets when I have them.  They are to minute…Oliver can hardly fit his fingers in the leg openings when the diaper is all pinned… December 30th 2012

between the vent and the movie case

Between the vent and the movie case as adverse to the rock and a hard place…this is where Shamus catches his Z’s when not chasing Pumpkin and prancing about in the snow December 9th 2012

Massive stack of large teeny diapers (28-32 week gestation sized) http://teenytears.blogspot.com/ …I cut until I think I grew and extra knuckle on my scissor holding hand…plenty of sewing for me to do in the upcoming longish weekends! Most of these once completed will go to God’s Tiny Angles http://www.godstinyangels.com/ , the rest…well I hope to hear from a few hospitals here in the snowy north! December 9th 2012

A very special teeny diaper made for a grieving mommy in Australia.  Her angel was born sleeping in March…His name is Loken…I hope this diaper will get to her quick!  Embroidered on the machine which I really need to get serviced…thankfully it got through the entire name without eating the fabric. December 9th 2012

Uh oh…I stopped at the quilt shop after groceries…well I did need another full yard of pink flannel and these other fat quarters…well they leapt into my arms…who am I to say not to a fat quarter?!? They’re all chopped into diapers with the little left over saved for that flannel quilt I just know I’ll make one day December 9th 2012

Oliver and Olivia with Santa…December 2012!

Pretty large stacks of small teeny (18-26 wee gestation sized) diapers http://teenytears.blogspot.com/ …I really need to stop cutting and start sewing! Most of these once completed will go to God’s Tiny Angles http://www.godstinyangels.com/ , the rest…well I hope to hear from a few hospitals here in the snowy north! December 9th 2012

The snow Caterpillar on the deck…amazing…the 2-4 inches of snow forecasted kinda grew to 10-14 inches of snow…hence the bubbly beast balancing precariously on the deck…can’t wait to see the butterfly that will be a popping out of this! December 9th 2012

love the smell of Flannel in the morning

Fresh Flannel from JoAnn Fabrics…eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…don’t cha just love taking your fabulous new fabric out of the bag, spreading it out, and contemplating what it’s soon to become?!? Me too! I see piles of wonderfully colored diapers teeny and teenier!  Have a couple boy monkeys to make this weekend then it’s back to diaper sewing for Teeny Tears and God’s Tiny Angels…I can’t decide which fabrics I like the best…the tie dye lines with dark purple with be wonderful bur then there’s the great flowers lined with bright yellow…best part after making all of these beautiful diapers is the eventual scrap quilt made of all the chunks of flannel left over…Preemie sized for GTA…I think I should just stop sleeping so I can sew at night and work during the day… December 6th 2012
