Al who dwell in my heart on the WALL

The All Who Dwell in my Heart quilt is totally done and on the wall…doesn’t hang perfectly flat but hey after 3 years of hand paper piecing what does one expect!  20 heart blocks hand stitched, hand embroidered than ribbons added by machine…whew…it’s machine quilted in the ditch between the blocks…haven’t quite decided if I want to tackle hand quilting each heart yet…the back is a fabulous lavender paisley with orange and retina burning color combinations…edged in white with tiny buttons…kinda garish once it was complete but I’m not one to just tear something apart because it’s garish…that and I hate ripping out seams! Finally on the wall October 6th 2013

Tattoos I’m contemplating

in memory of my dear ol’ Dad…back of one of my calves…they’re both quite beefy do I think this would fit nicely…I’m sure he would TOTALLY disapprove but then again I’ve been a bit of a wild child forever…I can’t remember what dad’s test set looked like, I’ve a feeling it was blue…I found this cool orange one and since I oh so love orange…well there ya go! wicked! Haven’t gotten it priced or anything so I don’t know when exactly I can save up to get it… July 27th 2012

Natalia’s heart tattoo…aiming for left forearm as that’s where all the babies have rested their wee heads…note: band aid on left (broken) side of the heart. HLHS… miss her horrible to this very day…Haven’t gotten it priced or anything so I don’t know when exactly I can save up to get it… July 27th 2012

finished eulogy

I’ve been invited to do his eulogy…this should be interesting as I am so not a public speaker…

So many people loved my dad…Honest Rog.
He was always there to lend a helping hand to his many friends, family, his kids and especially his grandkids and his great grandkids.

Our loss is still too fresh right now but one day we will all be able to reminisce about dad with fewer tears and gentle smiles.
Dad riding the hay down when the hayloft collapsed.
Dad in his uniform looking all spiffy for the legion.
Dad saying no-no-no when we put brand new babies on him but him hugging them nonetheless.
Calling mom horrid pet names but always with love in his eyes.
Singing along with Slim Witman in the truck on the way to the cattle yards…dad never quite hit those high notes…not for a lack of trying.
Dad com bossin’ the cows for supper.
Buppa huggin the kids (little and adult) goodbye and slipping them money…shhh don’t tell your mother…
Dad giving big gentle bear hugs and whispering in our ears that he loved us and would see us soon.

Dad, you touched so many hearts in so many ways.
You’ve been counted in my blessings ever day.
You’ll always live in a room in my heart filled with shades of plaid, perfect dove joints, phone hook ups and love.
Thank you dad, for becoming my dad.
I’ll miss you every day.

I’d like to close with a poem:

There is nothing I can do,
to make him come back
There are no words I can say,
that can replace the words you will long to hear
There are no answer’s I can give,
that will satisfy your questions
There is not another soul I can introduce you to that will ever replace his
And, there is no love I can offer that will ever replace the love you shared
I can not promise your broken heart will ever be complete
I will not say it could have been worse
I will not deny this is a tragedy
I will not lie and tell you he will come back
He never really left
I do promise he hears you when you speak
I will say he loves you no matter the distance
I will not deny he is in a better place
And, I will not lie; he is waiting to greet you someday
Roger is every you step you take
Roger is in everything you do
Roger is the air you breathe
Roger is every beat of your heart
“Roger is like the wind. You can not see him…but you will always feel him”

friends & family heart

Friends and Family heart…one of 19 hearts blocks for the ‘All Who Dwell in My Heart’ quilt…If I was to make a heart for everyone in my family, extended family, on line friends, school friends, work friends, new friends, old friends…well I wouldn’t have time for anything else ever…So this is the all inclusive everyone not already noted heart…made it with a plethora of rainbows to fit quite nicely the rainbow coalition of buddies, pals, cousins, aunties, uncles etc…The pattern was free from: http://www.paperpanache.com/guests/aheart.htm hand paper pieced, machined a bit, machine attached the ribbons and hand embroidered the words…about 9X8 inches at the moment 9-18-11 (happy birthday dad!)

those who dwell in my heart WIP

‘Those who dwell in my heart quilt’

…thus far…whew…each heart takes about 2 days on and off hand paper piecing, some machine piecing, machine attaching the ribbons the hand embroidering the names (if you look close you’ll see my cursive abilities are a bit lacking) rest assured at least I can read the names lol…so far I’ve completed: Mom (Lavender/Green), Dad (plaids), Jim (Red/Black), Me (Orange/Green), Tabitha (Black/Pink), Jazmin (Purple/Black), Natalia (shades of teal w/ black & red heart),  Heidi (Retro Hippy w/ Beatles), Oliver (fun boy fabrics), Olivia (Pink/Grey), Stephermini (Shades of green), Companion Animals (Beastie Fabrics) and Samhain (Wild Halloween-ie)…I’ve 7 more to make…each heart will eventually be cut down to the size of the smallest one about 7”X8”…I think I’ll frame each with black to make each block pop more…think I’ll skip prairie points as this quilt will be busy enough…unless I go with a black border all around and black prairie points…definitely nothing definite just yet…The pattern was free from: http://www.paperpanache.com/guests/aheart.htm

dear Ol’ Dad’s Heart

Dear Ol’ Dad’s heart.  I tried to locate as many plaids and man fabrics for this.  When Mom & Dad got married plaid leisure suits were ‘in’.  Dad had many a plaid suit.  The wood grain fabric is for the wonderful cabinetry he would make in the garage.  I got to nail scraps together.  Ah memories! Added plaid and argyle ribbon…no idea if dad ever wore argyle but he did have some fabulously eye burning neck ties! Pattern: ‘crazy hearts’ http://www.paperpanache.com/guests/aheart.htm this block will join 19 others to make my quilt: Those Who Dwell in my Heart. Hand pieced ribbon added by machine. Block completed September 21st 2010
